Neonatal Follow-Up Program
The Bridgeport Hospital Neonatal Follow-Up Program is a model program, which follows the growth and development of premature and other low birthweight infants until they are 27 months of age. Early identification of health issues or developmental delays ensures early treatment, which has a greater chance of correcting identified problems. The program follows over 100 children per year, with 50% of them having developmental delays that can be reversed with prompt treatment. The success of the program is due to case management by a specially trained nurse, who maintains close contact with families and follows up on infant assessments, medical appointments and care. Funding for this program is an ongoing need.
