Open-Heart Surgery

Each year, our expert open-heart surgical team performs hundreds of operations, including coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve repair and replacement, pacemakers, on patients from all over Connecticut. At Bridgeport Hospital, one of only seven open-heart surgery centers in the state, experts are available around the clock.

The cardiac surgical team consists of Cardiothoracic surgeons, Physician Assistants, Cardiac Perfusionists, and Operating Room Nurses. The Cardiothoracic surgeons at Bridgeport Hospital are highly skilled physicians, who take pride in providing excellent care to patients.

Specialized post-surgical units offer both constant monitoring and dedicated nursing care for cardiac patients. Upon completion of procedure, the patient is transferred to our SICU, where they receive excellent nursing care. For the first 8 hours of recovery, the patient receives one to one nursing care, then the ratio is 1 RN to 2 patients for the entire length of stay in the SICU.
