Bridgeport Hospital's Intensive Care Units are brand-new and state-of-the-art. Patients cared for in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) include those who have had an acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, left ventricular failure, arrhythmias, those whose heartbeat and circulation need constant monitoring, those who are on intra-aortic balloon pump, or those who are on a mechanical ventilator. The CICU has the latest technology in an environment of intensive caring provided by the nursing staff. Cardiac inpatient rehabilitation begins here, or for surgery patients, in the Surgical ICU, as nurses and therapists help patients get up and moving.
