Complete Care

The Joint Reconstruction Center at Bridgeport Hospital provides a multidisciplinary care team of orthopedic surgeons, orthopedic nurses, therapists, and others who will work together to make sure you are cared for in the most effective and compassionate way.

With our team approach to joint reconstruction, your care begins before you enter Bridgeport Hospital, continues through surgery, and does not stop until you have fully recovered. Your team makes sure that all your needs are met and that the most appropriate services are provided, while you are in the hospital and when you go home. This close attention adds another benefit: you can go home sooner.

Steps to a More Active Life

When you select Bridgeport Hospital's Joint Reconstruction Center, the first step will be a careful evaluation by experienced and compassionate orthopedic specialists. They will help you determine the best options for treatment. Not everyone who has joint pain needs surgery. Medications and/or rehabilitation can be effective for many patients. This is a decision you and your doctors will make together.

If surgery is right for you, the next step will be a home visit by a registered nurse before you come to the hospital. You will be able to ask questions, learn more about your upcoming procedure, and find out what your role will be in the recovery process. During this visit, the nurse will evaluate your needs, your home, and your family support system to determine how much care you'll need when you leave the hospital.

You will be admitted to the hospital on the date of your operation. During the procedure, your surgeon will replace damaged joints with specially fitted implants that will help you to move more easily and comfortably. After surgery, you will recover in a private room, cared for by a team of nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and others dedicated to the treatment of joint reconstruction patients.

Therapy in the hospital is provided by Ahlbin Rehabilitation Centers Medicine, the most extensive rehabilitation service in the state.
